Palm Beach County Golf Association Scholars!

In partnership with Take Stock in Children Palm Beach County, the following bright students have received a tuition scholarship to attend the Florida state college of their choice.

 

De’Asia Clinton

Barbara & Jack Nicklaus Junior Golf Endowment Fund Scholar

Dear Palm Beach Golf Association:  I’d love to take the time to write a small thank you note to those who are making my future goals reachable. Honestly, I have loved my college journey so far. It’s opened my mind to a lot of things, it’s opened up my heart and my imagination. This journey is definitely something I’ll remember my whole life and it would not be possible without you. I thank you for helping not only me out, but everyone you’ve helped financially so they can better their lives. I believe in karma and blessings and you have good things coming your way if it hasn’t come already. Once again, thank you so much!

Degrees/Certifications Earned or Wanted: I would like to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education and a Master’s degree in English

Career Plans: After college, I plan on teaching High School English, then eventually becoming a college professor.

Dear Palm Beach Golf Association: I would like to thank you immensely for your generous gift. Because of your gratitude, I am able to attend a university stress free when it comes to finances (unfortunately stress is still a burden when it comes to assignments). I don’t know how to thank you enough. You have given me hope to a better, brighter future. I promise to use this awarded money to the best of my abilities. I was recently invited into a three year program, where I can acquire my masters in four years without changing the cost of my tuition. I will continue to work hard and maintain my 4.0. My biggest hope is that the association can see that they invested their money into a wonderful program where lives are being changed. Thanks again for changing mine.

Dear Palm Beach Golf Association: Thank you for giving me the chance to further my education. I plan to have a 3.0 by the end of this semester and to graduate with a Business Marketing degree and jump right into the golf business. This summer I am interning with Els for Autism & completing two courses online.

Current School: Palm Beach Atlantic University

Major/Minor (Field of Study): Business Marketing

Degrees/Certifications Earned or Wanted: I have my CPR Certification.

Career Plans: I want to be a Marketing Manager when I graduate.

Updates & College Successes: I am the Number Two player on the Palm Beach Atlantic University Women’s Golf Team.

 

 

Kristen Dodd

The Honda Classic Scholar

Update: Kristen Dodd is extremely involved in school and extracurricular activities. In addition to her high school classes, she is in a dual enrollment law course, has completed 150 community service hours, is vice president of the theatre department, and involved in chorus. In her spare time Kristen enjoys playing golf and works at First Tee, where she enjoys coaching younger golfers. She has applied to the Marines, leaves for boot camp on June 6th, and will be working in communication once boot camp commences.

Ahmed Abou Bakr

Abacoa Golf Club Scholar

Update:  Ahmed is a very driven student taking dual enrollment online courses at the University at Florida (pre-calculus, physics, calculus, and exploring the universe). In addition, US History and Algebra 2 through Florida Virtual. Ahmed will graduate high school early and has started applying to Harvard, Yale, George Washington University, University of Maryland, University of Miami, and American University. He also applied for an ROTC air force scholarship and a scholarship through the Turkish government.

Tricah Cadavedo

ETW Corporation Scholar

Update: Tricah is in her second year of Medical Academy classes and mentioned that she plans to go into a career in the medical field. She has already applied to the Bio-Technology program at Seminole Ridge High School and hopes to transfer there next year. In order to complete her community service hours Tricah plans to assist with the football team, volunteer at her church, and at the golf course.

Julian Obando

Nick Price Scholar

Update: Julian is a new Take Stock in Children scholar. He is an excellent student and states that his classes are more challenging this year but feels he is tackling the workload with success. He is hoping to attend either Jupiter, Dwyer, or Palm Beach Gardens High School next year. Julian wants to be a veterinarian and his committed to his future success. Overall, Julian is very engaged and appears to be totally invested in his collegiate endeavors.

Darlington Igwenagu

Update: Darlington has made incredible strides this year both with his GPA and setting the course for his post-secondary future. His mentor has been teaching him about accountability and how to maintain his motivation, which will propel him to high school graduation and starting FAU in summer 2016. We are hopeful Darlington can receive additional scholarships to assist with a housing scholarship so that he can live on campus and stay focused. At this time, we are making sure Darlington has a smooth transition into college; he is so excited about this new chapter in his life.

Take Stock in Children was established in 1995 as a non-profit organization in Florida that provides a unique opportunity for deserving low-income youth/students, many from minority families, to escape the cycle of poverty through education. We offer our students college scholarships, caring volunteer mentors and hope for a better life. Our comprehensive services start in middle school, continue through high school and include their transition into college.
