Chairman Update Events & Operations

Update: April 30, 2020

Dear PBCGA Community:

First and foremost, we hope that all of you and your loved ones are safe during these extraordinary times. Although administering golf tournaments and giving back to our community is the mission of the PBCGA, the health and safety of our entire community is paramount while our country fights the coronavirus pandemic (COVID – 19).

Since its inception in 1976, the Palm Beach County Golf Association has been a cornerstone within the golfing community. Thanks to our predecessors, members, sponsors and local golf clubs, our association has thrived over the last forty-four (44) years despite enduring both good times and bad. Although the fight against COVID – 19 may be our greatest challenge to date, I am certain that the PBCGA will overcome this hurdle and continue its legacy of being one of the finest local golf associations in the United States by continuing to support local students through our scholarship program, Take Stock in Children, and by offering top-notch championships once it is safe to do so.

Unfortunately, COVID – 19 has severely limited everyone’s ability to enjoy the game of golf across the world and the PBCGA community is no different. Although the Palm Beach County Emergency Order Number Five (5) permitted recreational golf to resume on April 29, 2020, “organized events”, including tournaments, remain suspended until further notice. We are working directly with local government officials on the multi-phase approach of reintegrating golf into our community and we are hopeful that we will be permitted to resume our tournament season in the coming weeks, though the timing is dependent on a variety of factors.

Once we are able to resume tournament play our intention is to conduct our events immediately in accordance with all government and safety regulations. There are likely to be modifications to our standard tournament procedures to ensure governmental compliance and the safety of our members, staff, volunteers and host facilities. We encourage you to read Palm Beach County Emergency Order Number Five (5) and the USGA Rules and Handicapping Guidance During COVID-19 Era (links below) so that when we resume operations you are familiar with many of the procedures likely to be implemented.

At this time we are postponing our tournament operations through May 15, 2020, which unfortunately results in the Tommy Belen Better Ball Championship being postponed. We will make every effort to reschedule this event and any others that are postponed this season.

In the meantime we encourage you to join the PBCGA for the 2020 season (if you have not done so already) to support us during these challenging times. Our organization, like most others, is suffering financial harm each day that we are unable to host tournaments and therefore, our members’ support is needed now more than ever. Although our annual membership fee has been $125.00 the last few seasons, we are reducing the fee to $100.00 for the 2020 season in hopes that our loyal supporters will pay their fee promptly in effort to support our association. All members that already paid their 2020 dues in the amount of $125.00 will automatically be issued a $25.00 credit towards any future PBCGA event.

Our Board of Directors has been communicating regularly and will plan on issuing an updated announcement on or about May 13, 2020. Until then we hope that our entire PBCGA community and their loved ones are safe and we look forward to seeing everyone on the links sooner than later.

Sincerely Yours,

Michael Blum
Chairman of the PBCGA
