Mid-Am & Senior Match Play In High Demand

Sponsored by Imperial, the Annual Mid-AM and Senior Match Play Championship, provides an opportunity for members to test their game in a match play format. Open to all amateurs 25 & older. Tournament Divisions: Mid-Am (25-49) & Senior (50 & Older)

The Match Play Championship has become a highlight on the PBCGA Schedule and with the growing demand for Match Play opportunities, the event has seen more competitors than field availability. 

The 36-hole Individual Stroke Play Seeding Round has now become the ” Imperial Shootout & Match Play Qualifier ” and will be hosted Saturday – Sunday, August 10-11 on the Champion Course at PGA National Resort & Spa.

Unique to other qualifiers the Shootout will be a MULTI-CONTEST EVENT. Not only will the event serve as a TRUE QUALIFIER/Seeding round for the Match Play Championship (Aug 16 – Aug 18, 2024) it will also be a Shootout Championship offering 3 Contests/Divisions: Mid-Am (25-49) Shootout, Senior (50-59) Shootout & Super Senior (60+) Shootout.

Player of the Year points will be awarded to each of the 3-point races (Open, Senior and Super Senior) regardless of trying to qualify for Match Play or not.

The The Imperial Shootout & Match Play Qualifier (Match Play Qualifier) will have a separate purse and points awarded to the top 10 finishers in each division and those that qualify for Match Play will continue to compete the following weekend in the match play format with the potential to earn an additional purse and additional POY points.

True Qualifiers Must Declare their intentions (“Opt In” / “Opt Out”) before starting the Qualifying round on August 21st.

August 10-11, 2024 – Imperial Shootout & Match Play Qualifier Champion Course at PGA National Resort
August 16-18, 2024 – 39th Mid-Amateur & Senior Match Play Frenchman’s Reserve

MATCH PLAY FIELD SELECTION (64 Players Advance):

  • 84-player Individual Stroke Play Qualifier
  • The Top 32 Mid-AM (25-49) Players will Qualify for the Championship Flight August 16th-18th
  • The top 32 Senior (50+) Players will Qualify for the Championship Flight August 16th-18th In addition, Alternates will be selected from the seeding round if any of the qualifiers are unable to compete.

Stand Alone “36–Hole Shootout” Event August 10-11

All Mid-Ams (25-49) – Seniors (50+) are welcome to play in the 36–Hole Shootout event at PGA National - Champion Course. Even if you do not plan to compete in the Match Play portion of the series (August 16-18) at Frenchman’s Reserve; you have that option.

The 36–Hole Shootout (August 10-11) will have 3 separate divisions, tees and be awarded Player of The Year Points for all point races (Open, Senior & Super Senior).

Super Senior (60+)

Seniors and Super Seniors will play from the same yardage. This is done so that the Senior and Super Senior divisions can be seeded into an overall Senior Match Play Tree for the following weekend at Frenchman’s Reserve.

As mentioned there will be a separate Purse, Points and Skins game for the Shootout portion of the Series.

Players will be asked when turning in their scorecards on August 11th if they intend to OPT IN or OUT of the Match Play portion of the series.
Mid-Ams (25-49)

The Champion and Runner up from 2023 have been exempt into the Match Play portion of the series and have secured the No 1 and No. 2 spots. They are not required to compete August 10-11.

The Top 30 players that OPT IN (from August 10-11) will qualify for Match Play and based on their finish at PGA National and will be seeded into the Match Play bracket (Seeds Nos. 3-32)
Seniors (50+)

In order to compete in the Match Play portion of the series at Frenchman’s Reserve you need to prequalify (Exemptions from 2023 Match Play finish) or compete in the 36-Hole Shootout August 10-11 at PGA National.

Qualifiers are playing for 30 spots in both the Mid-Am and Overall Senior divisions. 

Player of The Year Points for all point races (Open, Senior & Super Senior) will be awarded for the Match Play portion. Additional Purse will be awarded for Match Play

Due to the limited field size, True Qualifiers for Match Play will have registration priority over players that do not plan to compete in the Match Play Championship.

Shootout only registrations will be waitlisted until July 1, 2024. After this date these registrations will be accepted and filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

ABOUT PBCGA

Since its inception in 1976, the Palm Beach County Golf Association has been a cornerstone to the many excellent golfers residing in Palm Beach County. For those of you who may not be familiar with the PBCGA, we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by local business leaders in 1976.

Our purpose is two-fold:  First, we conduct approximately 20 championship each year while promoting amateur golf throughout South Florida. Our championships are the best of their kind anywhere and we strive to make them enjoyable for golfers of all ages. Second, we are committed to providing college scholarships while supporting the growth and development of deserving and worthy Florida students. We stand with our hand selected scholars while encouraging opportunity to build life skills and gain college preparedness through regular mentorship.

The PBCGA provides an opportunity for local amateur golfers to play the best golf courses in their local area and affords access to the top golf venues in South Florida. Nearly 700 amateur golfers compete in PBCGA championships throughout the tournament season (March – October).

Operated by Executive Director Jordan Schneider, the PBCGA along with a team of dedicated volunteers performs the day-to-day operations of the PBCGA from its Headquarters in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. The Association is served by an elected Board of Directors, headed by Chairman of the Board Michael Blum.

The Palm Beach County Golf Association has awarded over $485,000 to 185+ area college students to help with their college education. These scholarships have helped students pay for tuition, books and other fees so that they could be more dedicated to their studies.

PBCGA has partnered with Take Stock in Children – Palm Beach County to provide tuition scholarships to attend the Florida state college of their choice. Take Stock in Children is a statewide mentoring/scholarship program. The program enrolls middle school, low-income students and helps them succeed by providing college and vocational scholarships, volunteer mentors, student advocates, early intervention and long-term support.

For more than 40 years, the PBCGA and local South Florida businesses have partnered to provide the highest level of golf services to the Palm Beach County area.  Continued support from local organizations such as the Arrigo Family, Tiger Woods Ventures, Nick Price, Jack & Barbara Nicklaus, Morell Studios, Palm Beach Kennel Club, Kibbey Wagner & Blum, PLLC, Abacoa Golf Club and PGA Section South Florida is a testament to the longstanding support of PBCGA’s mission to give back.
